Technology Requirements for Undergraduate and Accelerated B.S.I.T. Programs

Students desiring to enter the accelerated BSIT program are required to obtain a laptop computer, web cam, headset, and appropriate software for use in the program. The student receives significantly reduced pricing on software when using the links on this site. Non-institutional financial aid funds may be used to meet this need, if a student currently does not own a laptop and qualifies for such aid. Hardware Specifications

Laptop
Processor: 2.0 GHz or greater
LCD: 15.4 inch or greater preferred
Memory: Minimum of 2GB (4GB preferred)
Graphics Card: 512 MB
Hard Drive: 80 GB preferred
Other drives: DVD+/- RW
Wireless network adapter

The Dell M4300 can meet these specifications and is available at www.dell.com

You are not required to purchase a Dell. You may purchase any brand that meets the specifications including Macs and will run the software listed

Webcam: Standard web camera with microphone (unless headset has microphone)
Headset: Standard headset with microphone (unless webcam has microphone)


Software Specifications

Oracle Database Enterprise Version:
IT majors at Trevecca you can get a copy of the Oracle Database software. You can obtain your copy by:

  1. Accessing the Oracle Academy Web site at academy.oracle.com
  2. Select Advanced Computer Science
  3. Select Apply for Student Membership on the left menu bar
  4. Be sure the country and language are set and click continue
  5. Download and complete the Oracle Academy Agreement
  6. Click continue
  7. Search for Trevecca and once found click on the name
  8. Click on the “School of Business & Management
  9. Complete the application and click on Submit
  10. Return the Oracle Academy Agreement to Adult Studies and receive the software


Adobe Systems Software

IT majors at Trevecca can get copies of the Adobe products at a significantly reduced cost by:

  1. Accessing the Web site www.uscollegebuy.com/asl.htm
  2. Ordering the desired software

There are several different packages but you will need at least the following:

  • Traditional undergraduate – Master Collection
  • Accelerated BSIT – Design Premium
    • If you are planning to take Multimedia Electives, then you will need the Master Collection

Once a copy of your ID and proof of enrollment is provided then the software will be shipped to your home


Microsoft Software

Trevecca students may order Microsoft software at reduced prices by:

  2. Ordering the desired software
    1. IT majors will need MS Office 2003 (minimum)
  3. Once you are verified software will be sent directly to you

IT majors can receive a login to order other Microsoft products such as server and development suites for just the cost of the shipping if interested but they are not required. This will be covered at orientation or first day of class.

PHPDev – includes PHP, Apache, and MySQL free at www.sourceforge.net

Students should purchase, install, and test hardware and software before the first class. There will also be assistance available at the orientation night.
